The
River Sharavati drops from an edge of a cliff to a height
of 292m below forming the Jog Falls. The picturesque locales
captivates the senses .This is the highest waterfall in India
and second highest in the world. Found amidst the lush green
vegetation of the Western Ghats, Excursion To Jog Falls is located in the
Shimoga District of Karnataka.
River Sharavati cascades down in a series of four falls
- Raja,
- Rani,
- Roarer,
- Rocket
The highest fall is Raja, which falls to 250m , next is Roarer
while the Rocket descends in rapturous outbursts just like
its name. Rani flows gracefully , without any outbursts.
The 50km long Hirebhasgar reservoir is located here only which
control the flow of the Sharavati River.
Things you can do here are
- Take a refreshing bath in the falls
- Trekking can be done over the steep cliff, if you have
the right expertise
- Try exploring the bottom of the falls, don't try if
you are not strong and healthy.
- Take a plunge in the pool formed by the Jog falls .
Not to be done during monsoons because the water of the falls
increases and also mist covers the whole place.
- The Watergates of the Linganmakki Dam is opened during
the monsoons, an ideal place to visit.
During monsoons mist shrouds the valley and the leaves dripping
with raindrops is a beautiful sight to behold,as if the whole
place is draped in green cover. Best time to visit Jog Falls
is during August-November , Come here after the monsoon rains
to see the falls in its true glory, silvery cascade of the
falls will take your breath away.
