It was all due to the constant endeavor of the people who kept on changing the presiding deities of the temples from time to time so that they were able to preserve them. Sometimes the deities were kept hidden the houses of priests, till they were safely placed in the temples.

One such temple is the Shri Bhagavati Temple in Pemem located at a distance of 7km from Pemem in the Pemem Taluka.

The Shri Bhagavati Temple in Pernem is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavati Ashtabhuja, or eight-handed Goddess, which one of the incarnation of Goddess Durga.

The temples in Goa have unique architecture and they are noted for their simplicity and aesthetic beauty. Certain typical features of these temples are that they are enclosed by betel nut trees, coconut groves and lakes and the Pillars of Light are the sentinel of the temples

Shri Bhagavati Temple in Pemem has a temple complex having five temples, main one being of Shri Bhagavati, other temples are of Shri Sateri, Shri Dev Ravalnath, Shri Dev Bhivangi Panchakshari & Brahma (Shri Vishnu, Shri Ganapath, Shri Shankar).

Shri Bhagavati temple in Pemem has two Deepstambhas which are particularly striking. The temple is 500 years old and it is on the main road only. You will find two life size images of elephants of black stone standing as a mark of welcome to the visitors.

The Goddess Bhagvati Asthbhuja idol is in a standing position on a high pedestal. Here at the temple the festival of Dussehra is celebrated with fervor and enthusiasm from Ashwin Shuddha Pratipada to Poomima, when over 25 thousand devotees congregate at the temple.

The principal festival celebrated here are the 7 days "Bhajanisaptah" at Mandrem, which is celebrated in Kartika. The Zatra, "Shimgo" are other festivals, when large numbers of devotees throng here.
