Goa
is a gorgeous state with beaches, green trees, dense forests
and different types of birds and animals. That is why the
place is attributed with the titles like Pearl of the
Orient and Tourist Paradise. Goa has a rich
historical past and this history is very much related to the
Portuguese colony in Goa. There are number of Old Portuguese
architectures in old Goa. These architectures include mainly
churches built by the Portuguese colonizer. The Church of
the Carmelites is one of these churches in old Goa.
Church of the Carmelites is situated at Panaji city which
is the capital of Goa. This church was built in the year 1621
AD. The Church of the Carmelites was constructed in the medieval
design. Now there is nothing remains on the church ground
except the façade and raised pavement which provided
as an alter of the church. It is at the southeast of the church
of the Church of St. Cajetan. The Church of the Carmelites
is situated at the top of a hill which is very near to the
hill where the Church of Our Lady of the Mount is situated.
The Church of the Carmelites in Goa was destroyed when the
Carmelites denied to take Oath of Allegiance to the King.
They were drive out from Goa in 1707. The Church of the Carmelites
became empty and gradually fell under the category of ruins.
