of St. Francis Xavier in Goa is dedicated to St Francis Xavier
or Santo Padre. St Francis Xaviers real name is Don
Francisco de Yesu. He was a bright young man who was pursuing
scholastic career at the famous University of Paris. With
a mission in mind of bringing Christianity in east it was
in 1542 that St. Xavier walked barefooted in an obscure village
in India.
Goa Chapel of St. Francis Xavier is located behind the
gate of St. Paul's college where Kuchcha road branches off
the main road. However, essentially resembling Doric architecture,
Chapel of St. Francis Xavier in Goa is made of laterite plaster
with lime mortar. It boasts of tiled roof supported by wooden
rafters. In Chapel of St. Francis Xavier in Goa there is only
one altar.
In 1570 the sudden outbreak of the epidemic and the following
vacating of the College of St. Paul turned this Chapel into
ruins. However, it was in 1622 that this church was again
dedicated to St. Francis Xavier after his canonization and
in 1884 this chapel was restored.

on the banks of the pristine Mandovi River in east Tiswadi
Taluka in Central Goa. You can reach here by driving on NH
4A. This route begins as the Ribander Causeway and runs east
along the Mandovi River and continues south-east to Ponda.
