Tour to Goa - The Terekhol Fort Goa is one of the more famous forts in the state. Placed on the northern bank of the Terekhol River, it was built by the Raja of Sawanwadi.

It was arrested by the Portuguese viceroy, Dom Pedro de Alameida in 1746. The church and the fort were rebuilt then.

In 1825 it served as the base for armed revolt by the first Goan born Viceroy of Goa, Dr. Bernardo Peres da Silva against the Portuguese forces.

Terekhol Fort was a prime Portuguese fort for the defense of Goa, situated on the north side of the estuary of the Terekhol River, the northern most boundary of Goa.

Habitually marked by towers and bordered by a trench it overlooks the panoptic ocean. In the middle of the fort is the church with a Goan frontage. The fort presently houses a tourist hotel.

The stillness of the place is emphasized by the confluence of the quiet sea and the river.

The Terekhol Fort Goa now houses a heritage hotel. The fort has a church dedicated to St. Anthony in the premises. It is more than a century old.

The church is closed to the general public. It does open occasionally for certain festivals and celebrations.

One of the best things about exploring the Terekhol Fort Goa is the breathtaking view from the ramparts.

The sea stretches for miles, and the bushes far below sway gently in the breeze.

Once you are through exploring the fort, you can have a picnic on
the beach. Enjoy a ferry ride from Terekhol to Querim along the river.

Tour the nearby town of Mapusa, famous for its weekly bazaar held every Friday. Shop for sausages, fish, pheni, and jaggery at the bazaar.
