Palolem
beach in Goa is situated 2 km west of Chaudi. Goa Palolem
beach is one of the most ideal beaches in this Indian state
of Goa. It has a curved shaped bay lined with swaying coconut
palms folded by a pair of rocky crags. The white sand beach
in an arch is picture perfect. The village located nearby
has several cafes and souvenir stalls catering to day-trippers
and vacationers who arrive in flocks on sightseeing tours
of the beaches. Despite the commercialization, Palolem remains
a traditional village, where the easy velocity of life is
dictated by the three daily rounds of todi-tapping. This stretch
of white sand dominates the southern coast of Goa. Until a
few years back, it was among the virgin beaches of Goa. However,
it couldn't escape from the eyes of the tourists. Although
a few developments have taken place, the beach still has a
comforting sensation to it.
Until recently foreign tourists were few and far between
in Palolem. Over the past five or six years, however, increasing
numbers of budget travelers have begun to find their way here,
and the village is now far from the undiscovered idyll it
used to be, with a string of cafes, Karnatakan hawkers and
a tent camp crowding the beachfront.
At the northern end of the beach is a fresh water stream.
Across this stream is a tiny, undeveloped island that can
be accessed by just swimming across during low tide. However,
it is not very safe to do so during high tide. The other attractions
on this beach are the Dolphin cruises and the fishing trips.
These are offered at quite a reasonable rate.
